Privacy Policy for WrenchSpeak
Last updated: June 10, 2026
WrenchSpeak ("we," "us," or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app handles, how it is used, and the limited circumstances in which information leaves your device. By using WrenchSpeak, you agree to the practices described below.
1. Summary
WrenchSpeak is designed to be privacy-friendly. The app does not require you to create an account, and it does not sign you in with Google, Apple, email, or any other identity provider. Most of your data — including your saved vehicles, notes, and preferences — is stored only on your device. Information is sent off your device only when you actively use a feature that requires it (such as an AI lookup, a photo identification, or a subscription purchase), and only to the specific services described in this policy.
2. Information Stored on Your Device
The following information is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to us:
Vehicles you add (make, model, year, and related details you enter).
Saved procedures, notes, and preferences.
App settings and usage state.
You can delete all of this information at any time using the Delete Account option in the app, which permanently removes your locally stored data.
3. Information Sent Off Your Device
WrenchSpeak transmits data off your device only when you use specific features. The services involved are:
a. AI Features (Rork AI Toolkit → OpenAI and Anthropic)
When you use an AI-powered feature — such as diagnostic trouble code (DTC) lookups, symptom, repair, torque, or specification questions, procedure personalization, OBD translation, the Identify feature, or the VIN scanner — the relevant input is sent to the Rork AI Toolkit proxy, which forwards it to large language model providers (OpenAI and Anthropic) to generate a response.
What is sent: the text of your request and, for photo-based features (Identify and VIN scanner), the image you capture.
This data is sent only when you actively trigger one of these features. We do not use this data to identify you, and the app does not attach your name or account to it (the app has no accounts).
b. Vehicle Data Lookups (NHTSA)
Some features query the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) public database to retrieve vehicle information (for example, decoding a VIN). These requests contain only the vehicle identifier needed to perform the lookup.
c. Subscriptions (RevenueCat and the App Store / Google Play)
If you purchase a subscription, the purchase is processed by Apple's App Store or Google Play, and subscription status is managed through RevenueCat. RevenueCat receives a randomly generated, app-specific identifier and purchase/transaction information needed to validate and restore your subscription. We do not receive your payment card details; those are handled entirely by Apple or Google.
4. Information We Do Not Collect
We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, or account credentials (the app has no login).
We do not use third-party analytics or advertising trackers.
We do not use third-party crash-reporting services.
We do not sell your personal information.
5. Camera and Photos
The Identify and VIN scanner features use your device camera or photo library to capture an image, which is sent to the AI service described in Section 3(a) to generate a result. Images are used only to provide that result and are not stored by us or used to identify you. The app requests camera/photo permission only for these features.
6. How Your Information Is Used
Information sent off your device is used solely to:
Provide the result you requested (AI answers, vehicle lookups, image identification).
Process and restore subscriptions.
We do not use your information for advertising or profiling.
7. Data Sharing
We do not share your information with third parties except the service providers listed above (Rork AI Toolkit, OpenAI, Anthropic, NHTSA, RevenueCat, and the Apple App Store / Google Play), and only to the extent necessary to provide the features you use. These providers process data under their own privacy policies.
8. Data Retention
Locally stored data remains on your device until you delete it (including via the in-app Delete Account option) or uninstall the app. Requests sent to the AI and lookup services are processed to return a result; we do not maintain our own database of your requests. Subscription records are retained by RevenueCat and the app stores as required to manage your subscription.
9. Children's Privacy
WrenchSpeak is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
10. Your Choices and Rights
Delete your data: Use the in-app Delete Account option to permanently erase your locally stored data, or uninstall the app.
Permissions: You can revoke camera and photo permissions at any time in your device settings; some features will not function without them.
Subscriptions: Manage or cancel subscriptions through your Apple App Store or Google Play account settings.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights regarding your personal information. To make a request, contact us using the details below.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
